ABOUT

Sono Mama was founded in 2011 by Rebecca Wells, an MA graduate in Textile Culture from Norwich School of Art. Rebecca has lived and worked in Tokyo for the past twelve years with her husband and various dogs. This followed a stint in Tokyo in the late 80’s, where Rebecca first became familiar with Japanese culture and found her love of textiles, in particular Boro.

Rebecca currently works between Tokyo and London, importing the best in wabi sabi wares from Boro textiles, to beautiful wooden rice sieves, and blue and white ceramics.

Every item she sells is hand sourced from dealers and textile collectors all over Japan. Each piece has a story to tell about Japanese culture or craftsmanship that she wishes to share with you.

Rebecca's sole premise for buying stock is that it has to be something that she would likes herself and would put in her home, more often than not this is what happens.

Rebecca hopes you enjoy browsing the site, learning about life in Japan and share her enthusiasm for the beautiful things she has found and sadly has to part with.
